Stepping Stones drop-in centers will be

CLOSED Through May 18th.

Covid 19 Crisis Response

Though our centers are closed, our staff is working hard to creatively meet youth and family needs during these difficult times. We are committed to addressing emerging family crises with flexibility, determination, and compassion. This includes distributing emergency food provisions and bus passes, financial assistance towards rent and utilities, assessing safety needs, conducting phone mentoring sessions, facilitating virtual connection groups like online board games and book clubs, and collaborative case management with schools.

We have completed a comprehensive needs assessment with each of our participants’ families, and are responding to each family’s needs accordingly. We are collaborating with the Carbondale Emergency Task Force, Colorado Department of Public Health and Roaring Fork School District to ensure service provision is coordinated across our community.

We recognize the urgent need for youth to retain social connection and emotional support during our statewide stay-at-home order. We are encouraging youth to stay home to stay safe, and to reach out to our staff any time, any day, for any reason.

Covid-19 Emergency Assistance Fund

To address evolving community needs during these challenging times Stepping Stones has created a Covid-19 Emergency Assistance fund. This fund will be utilized to provide direct assistance to youth and families who are facing unexpected adversity during the Covid-19 pandemic. Families can apply for support for rent, bills & utilities medical, mental health, food, and transportation assistance.

DUE TO THE HIGH VOLUME OF APPLICANTS WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE APPLICATIONS AT THIS TIME. IF MORE FUNDS BECOME AVAILABLE WE WILL PROVIDE AN UPDATE ON SOCIAL MEDIA AND OUR WEBSITE. STAY TUNED.

Families with children under 21 in their household or individuals under 24 living independently are eligible to apply. If you or someone you know is in need of financial support and meets our eligibility guidelines they can contact us to apply at

info@steppingstonesrfv.org or 970.340.2100

We have already disbursed over $34,680 in emergency assistance to local families and are fundraising to continue to meet the needs of families in crisis. WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO

Stepping Stones is a community-based youth mentoring program that operates drop-in centers for young people ages 10 to 21 in the Roaring Fork Valley. Our philosophy is that strong, long-term relationships with positive adult role models are the key to empowering youth and their families within our community. Our drop-in centers are open five days a week, and provide a diverse, bilingual atmosphere where participants feel comfortable sharing meaningful life experiences and challenges. Stepping Stones maintains a 10 to 1 youth to mentor ratio, and each participant works together with staff toward individualized goals. To meet the varied needs of our participants, Stepping Stones offers essential services and programming free of charge, including skill development, nightly meals, basic needs assistance, educational support and advocacy, community engagement, arts programming, and outdoor recreation.
